The game is set in the year 2071 in Seattle, for those of you with the source material, Runner Havens has all the info on Seattle. Feel free to make your character from another city, as during the campaign you may travel, but most of it will be set in Seattle.
Character Restrictions, and advise:
- We will be using the standard 400 point buy characters generation as in the book.
- All characters to meet DM's approval before play. Characters that are too good will be changed, or just shot at lots :)
- All characters must choose a lifestyle, even if it's living on the street, you may purchase multiple months of lifestyle at game start if you wish.
- We don't need to cover every facet of the game, if you choose to run without any magic or hacker, you will just have to find roleplaying ways of doing some things.
- I advise everyone to buy a commlink, and remember to buy an operating system, otherwise you will be running windows 98.
- I also advise everyone to either have a SIN (serial identification number), through the SINer quailty, or buy a fake one if you want to do anything through official means.
- Be realistic in your equipment, It's one thing to own a rocket launcher, it's another thing to walk down the street with it.
- No one ever wants to spend their money on a vehicle at game start, trust me, public transport is not an efficent way to run the shadows. I'll allow you to pool build points between you for a vehicle if you wish to.
- Starting players get free Build Points towards Contacts equal to 2 * Charisma stat (This is because people normally skimp on the contacts, and having contacts is useful)
House Rules:
- The maximum number of successes your can score on a test will be twice your skill level, if you don't have the skill then maximum will be 1 success, or half (round down) your natural related stat. This reduces the impact of high stats. This rule does not apply if you use edge on a test.
- If you die or are put in a unwinnable position, I may allow you to burn edge to get out of it.
- Karma may be awarded for the following:
- Surviving adventure = 1 point
- Meeting objectives = 1-3 points
- Character was particuarily brave or smart = 1 point
- Roleplaying = 1-2 points
- Character pushed the storyline forward = 1 point
- Character had the right skils at the right time = 1 point
- Player impressed the DM = 1-2 points
- Getting a teammate killed = (-1) points
